Welcome!
Hello, and welcome! I’m Chris, Principal of HD Qingdao Secondary School and Director of the HDQD Arts Center. Alongside my leadership work, I recently earned a PhD in Education from University College London, where my research explored the experiences of the earliest Chinese students in America. That project reflects a theme running through my career: bridging cultures through education and helping students open doors to opportunity.
My path into international education began in 2009 in South Korea, where I served as Head Instructor at the Chae Language Institute. To deepen my expertise, I returned to the United States to complete a Master of Science in Education at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in intercultural communication. Since then, I’ve held leadership roles at international schools in Shenyang, Beijing, and Qingdao—guiding programs through accreditation, supporting enrollment growth, building partnerships, and helping students secure offers from top global universities.
Today, I balance school leadership with a passion for writing, speaking, and research on international education. Whether you’re a student, parent, or fellow educator, I hope you find something here that sparks your interest. Please feel free to reach out—I’d love to connect.
Warmly,
Chris
